 FIRST READING CHOICES

A reading from the Book of Genesis 1:26-28. 31
God said, ‘Let us make man in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves, and let them be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven, the cattle, all the wild beasts and all the reptiles that crawl upon the earth.’ God created man in the image of himself, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them. God blessed them, saying to them, ‘Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and conquer it. Be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven and all living animals on the earth.’ God saw all he had made, and indeed it was very good.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the Book of Genesis 2:18-24
The Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helpmate.’ So from the soil the Lord God fashioned all the wild beasts and all the birds of heaven. These he brought to the man to see what he would call them; each one was to bear the name the man would give it. The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of heaven and all the wild beasts. But no helpmate suitable for man was found for him. So the Lord God made the man fall into a deep sleep. And while he slept, he took one of his ribs and enclosed it in flesh. The Lord God built the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man. The man exclaimed: ‘This at last is bone from my bones, and flesh from my flesh! This is to be called woman, for this was taken from man.’ This is why a man leaves his father and mother and joins himself to his wife, and they become one body.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the Book of Tobit 8:4-8
On the evening of their marriage, Tobias said to Sarah, "You and I must pray and petition our Lord to win his grace and protection." She stood up, and they began praying for protection, and this was how he began: "You are blessed O God of our fathers; blessed too is your name for ever and ever. Let the heavens bless you and all things you have made for evermore. It was you who created Adam, you who created Eve his wife to be his help and support; and from these two the human race was born. It was you who said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; let us make him a helpmate like himself." And so I do not take my sister for any lustful motive; I do it in singleness of heart. Be kind enough to have pity on her and on me and bring us to old age together." And together they said, "Amen, Amen."
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the Song of Songs 2:8-10.14.16;8:6-7
I hear my love. See how he comes leaping on the mountains, bounding over the hills. My love is like a gazelle, like a young stag. See where he stands behind our wall. He looks in at the window, he peers through the opening. My love lifts up his voice, he says to me, 'Come then, my beloved, my lovely one, come. My dove, hiding in the clefts of the rock, in the coverts of the cliff, show me your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet and your face is lovely.' My love is mine and I am his. Set me like a seal on your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is strong as Death, passion as relentless as Sheol. The flash of it is a flash of fire, a flame of the Lord himself. Love no flood can quench, no torrents drown.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the Song of Songs 2:10-14
My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise my love, my fair one, and come away, for now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come and the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land. The fig tree puts forth its figs and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise my love, my fair one, and come away. Let me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet and your face is lovely.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the Book of Ecclesiasticus 6:14-17
A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter, whoever finds one, has found a treasure. There is nothing so precious as a faithful friend, and no scales can measure their excellence. A faithful friend is an elixir of life; and those who love the Lord will find one. Whoever loves the Lord makes a true friend, for as you are, so is your friend.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the Book of Ruth 1:16-17
Wherever you go, I will go, wherever you live, so shall I live, your people will be my people, and your God will be my God too. Wherever you die, I shall die and there I shall be buried beside you, we will be together forever, and our love will be the gift of our life.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the Book of Revelation 19:1.5-9
I, John, heard what seemed to be the mighty voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying, 'Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.'   And from the throne came a voice crying “Praise our God, all you his servants You who fear him, small and great”.  'Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.' Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunderpeals, crying, 'Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to be clothed with fine linen, bright and pure' -  for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, 'Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

SECOND READING CHOICES

A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians 12:31-13:8
Be ambitious for the higher gifts and I am going to show you a way that is better than any of them. If I have all the eloquence of men or of angels, but speak without love, I am simply a gong booming or a cymbal clashing. If I have the gift of prophecy, understanding all the mysteries there are, and knowing everything, and if I have faith in all its fullness, to move mountains, but without love, then I am nothing at all. If I give away all that I possess, piece by piece, and if I even let them take my body to burn it, but am without love, it will do me no good whatsoever. Love is always patient and kind; it is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offence, and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other peoples sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes. Love does not come to an end.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Romans 12:9-18
Let your love be genuine and sincere, and always prefer good to evil. Love one another with great affection, and always have a profound respect for each other. If you have hope, this will make you cheerful. Do not give up if difficulties come. Have faith in God and in your love. Be perceptive to the needs of each other. Seek to be compassionate and kind, humble and patient. Always be there for each other when a quarrel begins. The Lord has forgiven you so you must do the same and over all these, be loving, because love binds everything together in your heart.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Colossians 3:12-17
As the chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. Bear with one another and if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other, just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Romans 15:1b-3a, 5-7, 13
May God grant you to live in harmony with one another. We ought not to please ourselves. Each of us must please our neighbour for the good purpose of building up the neighbour. For Christ did not please himself. May the god of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirt.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

A reading from the letter to the Hebrews 13:1-2, 4a-6a
Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that, some have entertained angels without knowing it. Let marriage be held in honour by all, and let the marriages be kept undefiled. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you”. So we can say with confidence: the Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL READING CHOICES

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 5:1-12
Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the hill. There he sat down and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them: ‘How happy are the poor in spirit; theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy the gentle: they shall have the earth for their heritage. Happy those who mourn: they shall be comforted. Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right: they shall be satisfied. Happy the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them. Happy the pure in heart: they shall see God. Happy the peacemakers: they shall be called sons of God. Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right: theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.’
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to   Matthew 5:13-16
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘You are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, what can make it salty again? It is good for nothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hilltop cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in the sight of men, so that, seeing your good works, they may give the praise to your Father in heaven.’
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 7:21.24-29
Jesus said to his disciples, 'It is not anyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," who will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven. "Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on rock. Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and hurled themselves against that house, and it did not fall: it was founded on rock. But everyone who listens to these words of mine and does not act onthem will be like a stupid man hwo built his house on sand. Rain cam down, follds rose, gales blew and struck that house, it fell; and what a fall it had!' Jesus had now finished what he wanted to say, and his teaching made a deep impression on the people because he taught them with authority, unlike their own scribes.
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 19:3-6
Some Pharisees came to Jesus, and to test him they asked, 'Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause?' He answered, 'Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning "made them male and female," and said, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh"? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one spearate.'
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to    Matthew 22:35-40
A lawyer, to disconcert Jesus, put a question, ‘Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?’ Jesus said, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also.’
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark 10:6-9
Jesus said, “From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 2:1-11
There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited. When they ran out of wine, since the wine provided for the wedding was all finished, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ Jesus said, ‘Woman why turn to me? My hour has not come yet.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ There were six stone water jars standing there, meant for the ablutions that are customary among the Jews: each could hold twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water,’ and they filled them to the brim. ‘Draw some out now,’ he told them, ‘and take it to the steward.’ They did this; the steward tasted the water, and it had turned into wine. Having no idea where it came from - only the servants who had drawn the water knew - the steward called the bridegroom and said, ‘People generally serve the best wine first, and keep the cheaper sort till the guests have had plenty to drink, but you have kept the best wine till now.’ This was the first of the signs given by Jesus: it was given at Cana in Galilee. He let his glory be seen, and his disciples believed in him.
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 15:9-12
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my own joy may be in you and your joy be complete. This is my commandment: love one another, as I loved you.’
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to  John 15:12-16
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you. A man can have no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do what I command you. I shall not call you servants any more, because a servant does not know his master’s business; I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father. You did not choose me, no, I chose you; and I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last; and then the Father will give you anything you ask him in my name.’
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to  John 17:20-26
Jesus lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, 'Holy Father, I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 'Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.'
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

Corinthians 13: 1-2, 4-7
Love knows no limits to its endurance,
No end to its trust,
No dashing of its hope,
It can outlast anything,
It is in fact the one thing that still stands when all else has fallen.

Eskimo Love Song

My feet will run because of you.

From this day forward,
you shall not walk alone,

Grow old with me; the best is yet to be.
Grow old with me; the best is yet to be.

His Hello (from Sex & the City)
His hello was the end of her endings
Her laugh was the first step down the aisle
His hand would be hers to hold forever
His forever was a simple as her smile
He said she was what was missing
She said instantly she knew
She was a question to be answered
And his answer was, 'I do'.

How do I Love Thee? - Elizabeth Barrett Browning
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach.

Remembrance
(In loving memory of those who could not be with us to share our special day.)
For those we have loved and lost along the way,
a flame to remember them burns here today.
For the laughter, smiles and memories remain,
together today their presence sustains.
Never forgotten and loved forever more,
today their blessings flicker and soar.

Today I married my best friend
Today I married my best friend,
our bond complete it hath no end.
We share one soul, we share one heart,
a perfect time, a perfect start.
With these rings we share together,
love so close to last forever.
This special day, two special hearts,
let nothing keep this love apart.

Today I will marry
Today I will marry my best friend;
The one I laugh with, live for, dream with, love...

What made us friends in the long ago
What made us friends in the long ago
When first we met? Well, I think I know;
The best in me and the best in you
Hailed each other because they knew
That always and always since life began
Our being friends was part of God¹s plan.

When you fall in love... from Captain Corelli¹s Mandolin by Louis de Bernières
When you fall in love, it is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake then it subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision; you have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you two should ever part, because this is what love is.
